FIF Trainee – EIB Global Directorate – Enlargement & Neighbourhood Department – Southern Neighbourhood Public Sector Division – Mashreq Unit – based in Luxembourg

The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its EIB Global Directorate – Enlargement & Neighbourhood Department – Southern Neighbourhood Public Sector Division – Mashreq Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 6 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2025)

(With possible extension up to 12 months)

Please note that the Programme is created under the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) and is open to young nationals from one of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region (Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia) and ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) Region, all 79 ACP Partner Countries (please see Provisions section).

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

The objective of the traineeship is to support the Southern Neighbourhood Public Sector division, Mashreq Unit, with operational tasks related to due diligence (including KYC, financial analysis, and coordination of legal, compliance, and risk aspects prepared by specialized teams), contract negotiations, and monitoring of infrastructure projects financed by the EIB in Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine. Additionally, you will assist Loan Officers with blending and technical assistance tasks (such as drafting grant proposals and terms of reference for consultants), conducting market research, and drafting internal notes and briefings for both internal and external purposes. These tasks will be performed in close coordination with operational teams at headquarters and external offices.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Assist the Loan Officers with due diligence tasks for project appraisal, including financial analysis, KYC, coordination of specialist input, and project management.
• Assist the Loan Officers in contract negotiations.
• Prepare Technical Assistance and Investment Grant proposals, including drafting terms of reference.
• Conduct market research, prepare presentations and briefings, gather data, and update internal databases.
  
  

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

• Final year of studies or University Degree of a MENA/ACP partner country in Law, Economics, Finance or Political Science
• Professional experience in development finance field will be considered as an advantage
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
• Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
• Good knowledge of Arabic would be considered an advantage.
